Dog dominance?
What do you do when you try to correct your dog for aggresive behavior towards other people and dogs and he totally ignores and tries to bite you??
It’s a 6lb. Maltese
Hi, I work for Pit Bull rescue so I know quite a bit about training. First and foremost, you HAVE to establish dominance in the house. Right now, your dog doesn’t respect you. In the dog world, the “leader” will grab an aggressive dog by the neck and pin him down. You have to do the same thing with your hand. If your dog ignores you and tries to bite you, you have to immediately stop everything, grab the dog by the neck (firmly, but not to hurt the dog) and pin him to the ground. Trust me, this doesn’t hurt them, it just shows them that you’re the boss. The dog needs discipline and a leader, which is YOU. You hold the dog there until he gives up (stops struggling and relaxes). If the dog tries to bite you in a mean way, you should make a loud yell to startle the dog, then leave the room. Soon enough the dog will associate a bite, with hurting you and you leaving the room. Sooner or later the dog will realize that you do not accept this behavior. Consistency is KEY. Do this religiously until your dog understands what you expect from him. It wouldn’t hurt to watch The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan or at least go on his website. He is the master at training dogs! Good luck!
