Home Dog Training
What is the best family, clean, home trained, dog to get?

I have a two year old son who loves animal so he will chase the dog around the most.
I am interested in a Beagle, are they easily trained, house broken, and do they bark a lot.

I agree that Golden retrievers and beagles are great dogs. They are friendly and beagles do not shed a lot. They are large enough to handle a bouncing 2 year old. I will warn you though that you have to be careful of where you get a dog. I would get a puppy, they are playful like your little one. However, puppy’s like to nibble, you would have to quickly teach them that it is wrong so that your little one doesn’t get scratched with some teeth. The reason I say get a puppy is because then you are its owners and the way you raise it will determine its temperament. You cant really tell with older dogs, as they were raised by different people. Some dogs can be very vicious, even ones that should be nice due to their breed. Dogs I would not suggest due to their reputation, Chiwawas, Dalmatians, cocker spaniels, German Shepard’s, and collies. Chiwawas are little and easily spooked. Dalmatians tend to be aggressive, same as German Shepard’s, and collies, but cocker spaniels are not child friendly. We had one who was an angle until my youngest sister was born and began to walk. The dog got jealous and mean.
Currently we have a beagle and a red bone. The beagle is very fun and playful, she is terrified of thunderstorms and cuddles with the kids. The red bone is extremely playful, but she knows when to stop. They are the best dogs we have ever had. Good luck.
